Douglas Grey Modern

Description

The Douglas’ were an aristocratic lowland family who held extensive power throughout Scotland, particularly in the border region. Their name possibly comes from the village of Douglas in central Scotland. Various Douglas families held vast properties throughout their history including Hermitage Castle, Tantallon Castle and Douglas Castle. During the First War of Scottish Independence James Douglas was a trusted and effective commander of Robert I, and later carried his heart on crusade. Throughout Scotland’s history, Douglas’ have often been at the very centre of power; this did not guarantee security, a fact felt by the young Earl of Douglas during the murderous ‘Black Dinner’. Their motto is Jamais arrière, Never behind.

Strathmore’s T7 Quality Stock Tartan is a 100% pure new wool, general purpose, worsted tartan. Approximately 11oz/yard in weight and 155cm/61″ wide. It is suitable for making ladies kilts, skirts, trousers, accessories such as scarves and neckties, and for a lighter weight gents kilt.

Strathmore’s W60 Quality Stock Tartan is a 100% pure new wool, worsted tartan kilting and upholstery fabric. Approximately 13.5oz/yard in weight and 142cm/56″ wide.  Our W60 is a thoroughbred, medium weight kilting fabric intended primarily for use as a gent’s kilting material. Its hardwearing qualities, coupled with our wide range of tartan designs, also make it an excellent upholstery fabric.
