Gordon Red Muted

Description

The Gordons were the most powerful family in the North-East of Scotland. Their traditional lands were based in Berwickshire in the borderlands, however they were given the land and castle of Strathbogie after the Wars of Scottish Independence. They were later awarded the barony of Aboyne and the earldom of Huntly. It was after this that the Gordons became a major power, exerting control over much of northern Scotland and continuing an important if occasionally contentious relationship with the crown. The Gordon’s current seat is at Boyne Castle in Aberdeenshire, although Huntly Castle was the historic seat of the earldom of Huntly.

Their motto is Bydand, Abiding.
