Gunn Modern

Description

The Gunn clan were probably of Norse origin, possibly descending from a Norse lord named Gunni during the period of Norse control over much of Northern Scotland, particularly in the Northern and Western Isles. Their lands were based in the North-West Highlands in Caithness and Sutherland. The first recognisable chief was George Gunn in the 15^th century. Within these lands the Gunns held several strongholds, including Halberry Castle and Gunn’s Castle, also known as Clyth Castle, in Caithness. During the Jacobite risings the Gunns supported the British government against the Jacobite army, with several other Highland clans.

Their motto is Aut pax aut bellum, Either peace or war.

Approximately 13.5oz/yard in weight and 142cm/56″ wide.  Our W60 is a thoroughbred, medium weight kilting fabric intended primarily for use as a gent’s kilting material. Its hardwearing qualities, coupled with our wide range of tartan designs, also make it an excellent upholstery fabric.
