MacDonald Glengarry OC

This tartan is also reffered to as MacDonell of Glengarry.

The MacDonalds, or MacDonells, of Glengarry were descended from the Norse-Gaelic lord Somhairle, ancestor of several powerful west Highland clans. Two of Somhairle’s descendants, John, 1^st MacDonald Lord of the Isles and Amie mac Ruari, Lady of Garmoran were the progenitors of the clan. The MacDonalds of Glengarry’s seat was at Invergarry Castle where their lands were centred on Lochaber. A later chief, Alasdair Ranaldson Macdonell of Glengarry was a flamboyant and divisive figure in 18^th and 19^th century society, as known for his association with the glengarry bonnet and Highlandism as clearing his traditional tenantry.

Their motto is Creagan an Fhitich, The rock of the raven.
