MacDonald OC

Description

The powerful MacDonald clan were descended from the Norse-Gaelic lord Somhairle and later claimed the Headship of the Gaels as Lords of the Isles. This travelling lordship commanded land across the Hebrides, the West Highlands and the earldom of Ross while maintaining close connections to Ireland. The lordship disintegrated after 1493 with John, 4^th Lord of the Isles but the clan continued through its many branches including Clan Ranald, MacDonald of Sleat, Clan Donald South, MacDonald of Keppoch, and MacDonell of Glengarry. The MacDonalds have held a number of castles including Castle Tioram, Dunyvaig Castle, and Ardtornish Castle.

Their motto is Per mare per terras, By sea and by land.

T7 Quality Tartan 

Strathmore’s T7 Quality Stock Tartan is a 100% pure new wool, general purpose, worsted tartan. Approximately 11oz/yard in weight and 155cm/61″ wide. It is suitable for making ladies kilts, skirts, trousers, accessories such as scarves and neckties, and for a lighter weight gents kilt.

Approximately 13.5oz/yard in weight and 142cm/56″ wide.  Our W60 is a thoroughbred, medium weight kilting fabric intended primarily for use as a gent’s kilting material. Its hardwearing qualities, coupled with our wide range of tartan designs, also make it an excellent upholstery fabric.
