The MacLeans of Duart were a West Highland clan, with lands in Argyll, Lochaber and the Inner Hebrides. They gained prominence in the 15th and 16th centuries, expanding out into distinct branches, of Lochbuie, Coll, Ardgour, and Kingairloch, with the Duart MacLeans as the head of the clan. The head of the MacLeans oversaw a traveling lordship on the west coast, similar to that of the MacDonalds. Due to this the MacLeans have held various castles and houses, with the main stronghold on the Isle of Mull, Duart Castle, dating back to the 13th century.
Their motto is Virtue Mine Honour, My Virtues are my Honour.
