Murray Atholl Modern

Description

The Murrays of Atholl were a branch of the Murray family, descending from a knight who had taken the lands of Moray in the 12^th century. From Earls of Tullibardine, they became the Earls of Atholl, with lands based in northern Perthshire coming to compromise a vast estate, including Blair Castle, ancient stronghold of the Atholl earls. The clan were closely involved with the Jacobite uprisings, dividing the family loyalties between the Hanover crown and the Stuart claim. The Duke of Atholl maintains the only legal private army in Europe, the Atholl Highlanders, which is ceremonial in function.

Their motto is Furth fortune and fill the fetters.

Strathmore’s T7 Quality Stock Tartan is a 100% pure new wool, general purpose, worsted tartan. Approximately 11oz/yard in weight and 155cm/61″ wide. It is suitable for making ladies kilts, skirts, trousers, accessories such as scarves and neckties, and for a lighter weight gents kilt.

W60 Quality Tartan

Strathmore’s W60 Quality Stock Tartan is a 100% pure new wool, worsted tartan kilting and upholstery fabric. Approximately 13.5oz/yard in weight and 142cm/56″ wide.  Our W60 is a thoroughbred, medium weight kilting fabric intended primarily for use as a gent’s kilting material. Its hardwearing qualities, coupled with our wide range of tartan designs, also make it an excellent upholstery fabric.
